About Us!

Methley Mites is an established community group which has been in existence for over 20 years. We provide community support for very young children and their families in the Methley area. We run Tots sessions for parents and carers of children ages 0-5 years and supervised Playgroup sessions for children ages 2-5 years. We are a registered charity and therefore rely on the support of the community. Please help to support us by supporting our events.

Our playgroup is run by qualified staff who provide supervised play for 2 to 5 year olds. The sessions last just under two hours and are run three times a week. Activities include: Painting, water/sand play, role play, puzzles, basic baking, stories, singing, as well as plenty of outdoor play. We also have occasional visitors such as the road safety officer, fire brigade etc. Places are limited to 20 children per session and are very popular. Please see the Waiting List Secretary for details of how to put your child’s name down.

Our aim is to provide a place to meet for parents and carers to chat and a safe environment for the children to play. Children are welcome from birth. (Our record is 2 days old!). Facilities include an indoor room with a large selection of toys to cover most age groups. For the older children, we also have messy play as well as an outdoor area with plenty of space for trikes. We have changing facilities and pram parking. Methley Mites welcomes both breastfeeding and bottle-feeding Mums. We are happy to provide bottle warming facilities and, whilst you are welcome to breastfeed in the main room during the session, should you require more privacy, please ask. Note: We have a Breastfeeding Peer Support service in conjunction with the Wakefield District Health Authority. Our aim is to provide a qualified Breastfeeding Counsellor at every Tots session. Please ask for details. We charge a small fee per session which covers a hot drink for the parent/carer and toast for the child. We also present each child with a birthday present once a year.
